There is so much to celebrate in Mesa Verde Country®. Many of our festivals reflect our cultural ties with the archaeology and Native Culture of the area and link the past to the present. Others take to the skies, whether looking for birds or ascending in balloons.
Some festivals appeal to our taste buds, be it gourmet winemakers' dinners or beer fests, while others appeal to our artistic tastes through music, art, and drama. Our spectacular parks fill on weekends with antique cars, arts and crafts vendors, or fireworks celebrations. Cowboys and the western lifestyle are also big part of our celebrations, and rodeos and the county fair provide that Old West Experience.
One of Mesa Verde Country's most extraordinary events is the acclaimed Indian Arts and Culture Festival. Held every Memorial Day weekend, the festival includes a juried Indian Art Market, Indian Dances, a Navajo Rug Auction, special archaeological tours, and a Native American Concert.
The last weekend in August is the date for the Mesa Verde Country® Wine and Art Festival. This two day event begins on Friday with winemaker's dinners and ends on Saturday at Cortez City Park with wine tasting, sales, food, music and fine art. Is beer more to your liking? Join us in September for the Harvest Beer Fest to sample some of the best brewed in our area.
Spring migration and early nesters attract birdwatchers from far and wide for the Ute Mountain/Mesa Verde Birding Festival. Field trips to the county's variety of habitats and spectacular settings make for great birding adventures. Join the flock! With eyes still on the skies, be sure to join us for the Mancos Valley Balloon Festival in September. Mass ascensions, evening balloon glows, great food and exceptional music will send your spirits soaring.
In July Celebrate Cortez with the Zetroc Music Festival, featuring bands from across the country including local recording artists. Food and a beer garden are part of the festivities. Why Zetroc??? Cortez spelled backwards!
Beautiful fall weather is ushered in on Labor Day Weekend with the 4-Corners Motorcycle Rally. Scenic rides, a poker run, parades, concerts, and much more provide a perfect way to experience the beauty of the Southwest from the seat of your bike.
